Principal’s Message March 2014

Dear Parents,

For sports fans, the term “March Madness” will be on their minds as they anticipate the upcoming NCAA Basketball tournament culminating with the championship game on April 7. For our Grade 9 students and their families, March might be considered “Mexico Mission Month”. All of the planning and preparation which has gone into the annual Grade 9 Mission Trip culminates with our grade nines serving God in Fabens, Texas from March 15-27.

Please join us on Monday March 10 from 5:00 – 7:30 pm in the MCS gym for Mexican Fiesta Night for a taco dinner, presentations, entertainment and a silent auction, all in support of this Mission Trip. On Friday March 14 from 2:35 – 3:20 pm, you are invited to come to the Commissioning Service in the MCS gym as we offer support, encouragement and prayers for those undertaking this Mission.

It is hard to briefly describe the efforts our MCS students and staff have gone to in preparation, and I know this Mission Trip experience will have a lasting legacy, both in Fabens and for all of our participants. The Mission Trip will provide support and donations to a refugee center, to two separate Christian outreach programs and to the Susanna Wesley Collegio School in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Our students will share their testimonies’ and lend a helping hand renovating a refugee center, repairing churches and doing outreach to youth who are in detention facilities.

The grade nines have spoken in each of our MCS classes and some have also spoken in their home churches. One of the priorities of Edmonton Public Schools and a core value of MCS School is for our students to develop empathy as a key character trait. Meadowlark Christians’ 4 L’s: Learning, Living in Christ, Leading by serving others and Loving with strength of character will be reinforced through this Mission Trip – we are taking the learners of today and supporting their development into the leaders of tomorrow!

I want to acknowledge and thank the MCS Foundation, MCS staff, students and their families and those in our community who are supporting this Mission Trip. The Bible teaches us in Philippians 2: 3-5, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourself, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
